QU'EST-CE QU'UN BOUDDHA?
Le terme de divinité paisible est, en soi, une explication de ce que sont ces divinités. Comme nous l'avons dit dans la section Thangkas, le panthéon bouddhiste est vaste et nécessite donc un système de classification. Les divinités pacifiques constituent probablement la plus grande classe de divinités et de nombreuses peintures vous seront familières. Lorsque quelqu'un dit Bouddha, nous imaginons souvent le Bouddha historique, mais il est nécessaire de comprendre que le mot Bouddha fait en réalité référence à tout être ayant atteint l’éveil.
Shakyamuni Bouddha, Chenrezig et la Tara Verte sont toutes des divinités pacifiques et, comme je l’ai mentionné ci-dessus, sont elles aussi des Bouddhas. Padmasambhava peut être considéré comme une divinité semi-courroucée, mais je l’ai placé dans les divinités paisibles, car j’estime que cette structure est plus facile à saisir. Chaque divinité que vous voyez ici symbolise l'une des nombreuses qualités ou une combinaison de qualités du Bouddha. Sagesse, compassion, patience, véracité - ce ne sont que quelques-unes des qualités des divinités dans cette collection.
La beauté, dans l’art de la Thangka, nécessite des proportions symétriques. C’est donc pour cette raison que la qualité d’une Thangka est souvent caractérisée par la beauté des expressions peintes sur les visages. L'immense précision et la profonde concentration nécessaires à la création de ces peintures apaisantes et sereines sont une forme de méditation. On pense que l'artiste et ceux qui peuvent voir ces peintures accumulent des mérites positifs!

De nombreuses études sur l'esthétique humaine ont montré que la symétrie faciale et certaines caractéristiques du corps plaisent à tous. L'iconographie bouddhiste est construite autour de cette idée et a créé un ensemble de règles géométriques de proportions remontant à plus d'un millénaire. Ce système strict est utilisé pour assurer la symétrie et l’harmonie d’une Thangka. L’idée ici est que la Thangka émet une sensation de tranquillité aux yeux du spectateur. C’est également vrai pour les Mandalas, mais pour des raisons légèrement différentes.
Il n’est pas surprenant que nous nous trouvions souvent captivés par la présence paisible et calme de ces Thangkas. Bien que certains d'entre nous hésitent à acheter une Thangka car elles ont une signification religieuse, il est important de comprendre que leur seule présence suffit à diffuser la sérénité. Selon le célèbre peintre Alphonse Mucha, l’art n’existe que pour transmettre un message spirituel.
