Thangka of Amitabha Buddha

One of the 5 Gyani Buddhas, the Buddha Amitabha is considered to be the father Buddha of Avaloketeshvara: the Buddha of Compassion. He is easily recognised as he will always be Red in colour, which represents fire. This Thangka shows Amitabha with his two re-incartions : Varjapani (blue) and Lokeshvara (white) either side of him. He is almost always shown  in the Dhyana Mudra, and is probably the most veneered in the Gyelugpa order. The art and brushwork is in the classic Tibetan style, with gold paint used to decorate.
